Looking for an Inexpensive Solution to keep Deadbolt Lock thawed out... This has been an on going problem come Wintertime when the Temps dip below minus 15C'... I've been in contact with both the Door & Lock Manufacturers... The Door People suggest I add another Door to act as a Wind Break.. The Lock People suggest I add more insulation in and around the Tumbler, to that I say that idea will gum up the mechanizum...

We have an Insulated Exterior Door, the Deadbolt Lock I feel is of a poor design.. As the outer casing is a thin metal and the lock itself is installed from the outside with the fingers pointing inward... This Season we tried a Keyless / Touch Pad Deadbolt... Mother Nature again Won Out... The Lock just Freezes Up... Getting tired of reaching for the Bic Lighter, playing the flame on the Key Hole for a couple 10 sec. Bursts...

Any Thoughts or Ideas... Thanks

Does lubricating the mechanism with graphite powder help?

Suggest tapeing a small piece of plastic, like a flap, over the key hole to keep moisture out. Might help, might not.

Have you thought about changing the lock? The design must be letting moisture into it and causing it to freeze.

A temporary fix would be to spray WD40 onbolt and in key slot.
