Here is the background first:

I am holding J-1 Visa during the 08/2010 to 05/2012 for an exchange program in US, and now I am holding F-1 Visa start from 07/2013 for my masters in US. I don't work in US and have no income in US.

I assume I need to file 8843 Form for 2010,2011,2012 and 2013, for the 2010 I didn't file it, no one tell me to do that. For 2011, school sent me the email, so I did 8843 form, I was follow by the sample school school give to me, and few days ago I realized I actually fill the 4b on this form wrong (I have the copy of 8843 for 2011), it should be the same number on 4a, and I put 0 there, I don't know if I made this mistake or that sample is wrong. I went back to my country after J-1 exchange program is over, so I didn't file 8843 for 2012. Now I am back for my masters, I need to file 8843 for 2013.

Questions:
1. Do I need to file 8843 for 2010,2011(put right number on), and 2012, then send it to IRS?
2. Is there any bad penalties for didn't file 8843 form?

File the Form 8843 for 2010, 2011 and 2012; you can download the forms for each specific year from Internal Revenue Service (http://www.irs.gov).

I have yet to hear of ANYONE getting penalized for not submitting these forms, but Better late than never!
