Sure they could, but would any actual legal action ensue, highly unlikely.

You would have to describe the prank, and tell us what state or country this is in, for us to give you a meaningful answer.

We have a show on comedy channel that does pranks that hubby likes, I detest it. I have many fears and phobias and many of their pranks are not funny or could be harmful to a person's mental health. I too have questioned how legal it would be as you may be causing harm to another... mental and possibly physical if they get hurt trying to escape the situation.
Common sense tells me why would I do this to another person? What is the fun in that?

Yes, there can be criminal charges, if they are real.

I will tell you this, many ( many ) reality shows are not as real as they appear.
Myself and my son, was on several "radio talk show" games, call in and more. All of them were staged, we knew ahead of time of the call, and was ready for it.

I was on the (well should have been) the TV show "Cops", they re-Shoot the criminal capture, and more.

It can depend on the stunt and what harm.

Based on the video, I could see real issues. Since the "prankster" was chasing them, what would have happened if the people ran into traffic and were hit with a car. Here is my personal position. I have a Concealed Carry Permit. If someone like "Chucky" broke through a glass front and charged me with a knife, even if fake, I would be well within my rights to "stand my ground". Chucky would be stopped by my 147 grain Hydra Shok rounds. Not a very smart prank In my opinion. Worth your life or serious injury? I don't think so.
