hello there, I just got satellite and I need to know how would I hook up my vcr to it to tape shows while I am at work? I have the DSR317 and as with sat you get channels usually 3 digets long, however, the VCR programming to set channel for recording obviously is not that high ...am I able to still use my VCR? and if so how do I hook that up? if there is some way someone could do a step by step for me it would help, my husband has failed with this so I am stuck lol... Thanks for your time!!

Call your service provider, Direct TV, and Dish network offer DVR service that is a 1000 times better than a VCR. Also check out TIVOs web sight it might be worth the money?
My advice sell the VCR at the next yard sell. You can do much better, reliable and easier.

To record the satellite program using a VCR, your satellite receiver should have an TV OUT (F-type coaxial). You connect this output to the ANT.IN (or RF.IN) (F-type coaxial) on the VCR. On the back of the satellite receiver, there should be a small switch to select ch.3 or ch.4, choose one.
On the VCR, tune to channel 3 or 4 depending on your setting and your set.
The other way, is to use the RCA connections (red, white and yellow). Connect the satellite receiver to the vcr using RCA cables (red to red, white to white, yellow to yellow).
On your vcr, there should be a tv/video button, which should switch the vcr to record from the RCA inputs.
