My wife was discharged from hospital with a new prescription for carafate with a T with dot over it followed by gm, could you be so kind to explain what this means.

The pharmacist needs to see it to be really sure...
USUALLY the T with 2 dots means 'one' - one tablet or pill.
Gm MIGHT stand for gram, and one gram is the standard dose for that drug.
But PLEASE ask the pharmacist. It's good to be informed but not to get such risky answers on the net.

That is actually not a T, but a 1, below the dot a line, then a 1 under the line.
