I am presented with a problem with the balance sheet. Assets are listed, liabilities are listed, but equity isn't! Is there a formula to find equity?

You need to use the basic accounting equation, which is: Assets = Liabilities + Owners Equity.

This formula can be rewritten as: Owners Equity = Assets - Liabilities.
