I rubbed my right eye a few weeks ago and due to having an older contact lens in, it scratched the top of my eyeball in two places. I took my contacts out and went to sleep. When I woke up, my eye was weeping, swollen and red, and when I tried to put my contact lenses back in, I was in so much pain. I had to go to work, but was advised to go to the walk in center to get it checked out. From there I was advised to go to A&E... waited 3 hours, and they were useless.
The day after, eye still being incredibly weepy and painful, I visited my optician who confirmed I had two abrasions on my right eye, and needed stronger eye drops for treatment. I was then referred to the eye hospital. There, I was given two types of eye drops. One as an antisceptic and one as a muscle relaxer to help with the pain. I was told not to wear lenses while using these drops and was advised to rest my eyes from lenses for around 5 weeks.
After using the drops, my eye is now absolutely fine and pain free. I have left my contact lenses out for 5 weeks as advised and have been wearing my glasses.
Recently I have wanted to go back to wearing my lenses for work purposes and special occasions, but went to put my right lens in, and my eye is still extremely irritated when I put it in. I took it out, and it went back to being perfectly fine.
Can anyone advise me on what to do? I love having contact lenses and have been wearing them for 7 years. I don't want to think that I won't be able to wear them again. Could my eye shape have changed? Could I need a new brand of lenses? Or could the scratches still be on my eye after 5 weeks which are still being irritated? Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
