Manual pilot, tried changing the sensor etc but after lighting, when changing the dial back to on the flame goes out...

I assume that means a standing pilot lite.

I assume that means you changed the thermocoupler.

How long did you hold the gas valve down, with the pilot lite burning, before you turned the valve to "ON"?
