Can improper grounding cause noise

In what context are we talking about a ground.Low voltage or 120/240? In a regular house circuit the ground only acts as a safety and does not carry any current. Old house circuits had no ground. Low voltage DC circuits ground the negative side and it carries current.What noise are you talking about?
