I've been struggling with severe depression for years and years. I get bullied and rejected by girls a lot for my looks. I feel terrible all the time. I also have low self esteem. I dont know what to do. Is suicide my only option?

How old are you? Depression and anxiety can be controlled in a variety of ways. Have you seen a doctor yet?

Suicide is your worst option. How old are you? Your parents can help, and so can your doctor, or a trusted teacher, or school counselor.

Depression and low self esteem can be treated with VERY good positive results.

Depression can be controlled, not only by you, but with medication as well. See your doctor first, see if medication is right for you. It may take a few different kinds before you find one that works for you. Also, medication doesn't help instantly, it can take 6 weeks or longer before you feel better, so don't give up because the first pill didn't work.

Counseling is also a very good option. Just like with medication, it can take time to find a counselor that's right for you, but start looking, ask your doctor, he/she will likely have a list of counselors for you to consider.

You have to be proactive in your own health, instead of giving up.

You have been struggling, as you say, with severe depression, for years and years. You don't say how old you are, or whether you are taking medication, have taken medication, have been clinically assessed, tried counseling, or for that matter, any information that would be helpful in offering you some solid advice.

Please provide more information.

Your doctor needs to know IMMEDIATELY that your meds are not working so he can make the needed changes, or adjustments that do work.

It is a balance of life style and medication, it can be controlled. You have to work close with your doctor

I'm 20 year old male and I have struggled with severe depression for years. I don't know what to do as I've sturggled for years. I keep feeling terrible and tried a bunch of medications over 15 of them none helped. I'm losing hope that I will ever feel good again. I just feel awful all the time and it sucks.

If medical approaches haven't worked, have you considered spiritual ones? Meditation in its various forms has helped many people, as has religious rituals. Another approach that has worked in some cases is physical training for an event such as marathon running or bicycling or martial arts or swimming. All of these alternative approaches do have one essential commonality: a coach. A Sensei, a religious leader, a trainer, or a team captain can motivate you and help you work through the bad parts.

I assume you were under a doctor's care and just weren't trying medications hoping for an immediate fix?? Anti-depressants need to build up over time before they are useful.

Are you seeing someone now? Many people in your condition only see the negative because that is what you have been focused on for so long. Seeing a counselor can help you focus on the positive; help you to see that tomorrow is always another day; that you control how you feel and others don't; and how to appreciate the small things in life.

If you are staying inside, in your room, not with friends, and only thinking about your issues - get this - YOU'RE GOING TO BE DEPRESSED. And it isn't just you. That happens to all of us. How much exercise do you get? Have you called a friend lately to hangout? There are many things you can do that will help you feel and be more positive, but you need to learn how to do them.

Let's talk about exercise. Regular exercise releases endorphins. Endorphins also trigger a positive feeling in the body. If you exercise you will reduce stress and feel better about you. Trust me it works.

Most depression is 'situational,' meaning not stemming from an underlying medical condition, such as endocrine imbalance.
It could take 24 hours non stop writing back and forth just to get an idea of how to help where medication (and talk therapy?) have failed. No one should be given medication without talk therapy, but these days, I think there probably is more and more of it, because of costs.
So tell us where you live, what your family was like and is like now, and what you are doing with your life. Try to summarize what is important, and try to think of insights as you write.
Rejected by girls because of your looks? Heck, I've known guys who weren't at all handsome who were friendly and outgoing and had tons of friends, and eventually found a good woman.
The most simple question for any young person is did you feel loved as a child?
