Hello. I have had protected sex twice since the last time I had my period which was the last week of October. My period is very irregular and never comes on the exact day every month, sometimes a few weeks apart or even twice a month; mostly once. I am not on birth control and have yet to buy a pregnancy test. I am 18 and starting to worry.. please help.

Pregnancy can only be diagnosed by a urine test, blood test, or an ultrasound in early pregnancy. Sadly we can't access any of that online, therefore we can't tell you if you're pregnant or not.

I can tell you that it's a very big possibility. You're having unprotected sex, so pregnancy is definitely possible. Even with birth control, even with more than one form of birth control, pregnancy is still possible. You just upped the odds, that's all.

Try a pregnancy test. Make sure to use first morning urine. If that test is negative, wait another 2 weeks then test again, or get a blood test done.

The sex was protected, not unprotected. I know condoms aren't always 100% reliable but I don't understand why it would be this late.

You said you didn't use birth control. But, like I said, even with 2 or more forms of birth control, pregnancy is still possible. Condoms are the least reliable form of birth control on the market, so it's time to take a pregnancy test.

I took a First Response pregnancy test and it came back negative. There was NOT a slight second line. I still have not started my period but the day after I took the test I started experiencing my regular period symptoms that come a few days before (breasts enlarge and become sore). I also know this is an early sign of pregnancy so I am still a tad concerned even though the pregnancy test was negative. I am taking the second one in two weeks

False negatives are very common. Just because you had a negative, doesn't mean it's negative. It could be that you tested too early, it could be a faulty test, it could because you tested the wrong time of day. So many things can factor into a false negative.

That's not to say that the negative isn't accurate. It could be. It could be stress that caused the missed period, it could be diet, weight gain, weight loss, medication, illness, and many other things.

Waiting another 2 weeks is a good idea. If that test is also negative, and you still haven't gotten a period, I'd recommend a blood test.

Thank you for all your help.

I don't think it could be too early to test.. considering I have missed almost two periods.

Like I said, mine have always been irregular and sex has always messed with them. The start of a new job and my exam week have all happened since I got my last period, of course causing major stress. I made a doctors appointment but it is not until after the New Year.

It takes some women until well into their second trimester to get a positive on a home pregnancy test. Some women never test positive with a home test, even when they're in their last month of pregnancy.

A blood test is more reliable.
