Made in probably late 70s early 80s. The story revolved around a young black man who was a gang leader trying to make it by winning a band competition. The love triangle is him,a girl from neighborhood and a rich white girl he leaves her for. The neighborhood girl gets upset and starts up her own band and joins competition, I remember the actress who played her had a very exotic look her eyes were almost cat like and she had big hair with a white stripe painted through it.
