My ex boyfriend and I broke up after 4 and 1/2 years of dating. When we got together I was unknowingly pregnant. The father was my ex who was abusive and obsessive. I was shocked I was pregnant and wanted to have an abortion so I wouldn't have to deal with that man nor my baby deal with him. But, my boyfriend said no to keep it because he wanted a baby any way.

He signed the birth certificate under his own willingness. Now that we are broken up its been 2 yrs since the split up and we have 2 kids now. He is now dating some one else and has not, nor will he, help me with the kids or even act like they exist. All I've asked for is time but he continues to ignore their existence.

Well, I am on Medicaid and food stamps and the state has pursued there father for child support and to add them to his insurance so there off welfare. I just received papers in the mail for contest of paternity. He is denying both children so he can get out of supporting them. What do I do?

First, depending on what state you are in (any question on law needs to include your general locale as laws vary by area), it may be too late to challenge paternity for the first child.

You said the state is pursuing him for support. So you help them. If he's denying paternity tell the court he knew it wasn't his when he signed the acknowledgement of paternity.

He has a right to contest paternity, so have the tests and get child support.

You do what the judge wants you to do. You already have another agency helping to get the support and that is a great benefit to you do anything you can to help! You can't force him to be a part of their lives. If the judge does grant the paternity test then submit to it you don't want to be the one not cooperating. However, it is true that depending on where you are four years is too long to contest paternity especially since he willingly signed an acknowledgement at birth. Good luck!

Since I was living in Virginia when the child support was brought up I was told I had to close the case since I moved back to Florida or transfer if I could. I did just that. But I am on Florida welfare now, and have been since June. I just can't seem to find a job that either works with hours of child care an school or pays enough to cover child care to get off welfare! I'm doing my best And my ex is no help! Now I've got this added to my plate... I also found out I need an orange county attorney and I'm in key west!

Thank u for your advice! Ive heard from several people it may be to late to contest paternity. Especially when he made it clear to everyone that she was his child no matter what and even pushed out her biological father because he didn't want her to know any one else but him... 6yrs later... he receives something in the mail saying he has to help support them And he drops both children saying he never consented to signing a birth certificate
