To put it briefly somebody somehow obtained my bank account number, forged my signature on a bank slip and stole 750$ out of my bank account. The teller should have checked his ID you're probably telling yourself. He/She DIDN'T! Totally broke protocol and didn't ask for the person's ID which aloud the whole thing to take place. The police are looking for the person from the surveillance tape. The bank told me that if the police can't find him the case will have to go through the banks legal system. Am I going to get my money back if the suspect is not caught? I seems like I should as it was their tellers error that cause this illegal transaction.

They go after the criminal first. However, the bank should be pro-active, considering what you have related, and make the funds available to you. Find out who is the bank president and write a letter to them. Impress on them it was their error, you want the teller disciplined and you expect prompt replacement of your funds.

@Ma0641- Thanks for the reply. The bank manager told me they go after the criminal first and the bank is taking pro-active steps to find them. I figure I'll give the police a month or so to investigate before I start writing the president and pressuring the bank to reimburse me.

@ScottGem The fraudulent withdraw happened on a Friday, found out Saturday and had to wait till Monday to report it to the bank which is the same day I notified the police and filed a report.
