For a month and a half I have been dealing with a painful burning feeling in my upper abdomen. Coupled with this, which has come about only recently, is diarrhea. Could this be digestion or the beginning of an ulcer?

Your abdomen is below your stomach. Where exactly is the pain?
Not that anyone can diagnose this online; just give suggestions for you to ponder while you make arrangements to be examined in person. There are at least 20 conditions it could be.

I had an ulcer and the upper abdomen pain, but no diarrhea (and went to the doctor and got it treated and cured). Like tickle said, there are myriads of possibilities, so please go to a doctor and get this checked out -- and don't ignore it! And you will want to know what might be causing this, so it won't happen again.

The pain originates below my rib cage, but sometimes moves down between my pelvic bones.
I do not like going to doctors and so I try to stay away from them.
If the symptoms are close to an ulcer, what can help to relieve it? Would that be Antacids?

Your right or your left? How far below your lowest rib?
The pain radiates all the way to your pelvis? Right in the middle? How far down? The pelvis is a pretty big area.
Do not take antacids at this time. Those are for gas only.
Are you on medications or supplements? What is your diet like? How old are you and what gender? Do you have any medical history? Family history?

I had meant joypulv, not tickle, in my earlier post. Sorry, joy!
Why no doctor? Transportation? Money? Fear of what a doctor will do or what will be discovered?
If the pain moves, I would say it's not an ulcer. There are just too many possible problems in that part of the body. Antacids or Tylenol/aspirin might cover up what is wrong and make you think all is well, but the problem is only getting worse.
I strongly suggest getting it checked out now and not wait until the problem gets bigger. That's what I had done with my ulcer -- I waited too long and ended up in the hospital with a severe case of anemia and had to be given many tests to rule out more serious problems. Had I not waited, an office visit and a prescription would have fixed me up.

Where the ribs meet at a 'V', that is where it hurts. Pressing that area is painful.
The pain is between my pelvic bones at the bottom below my naval. It ranges all the way across, and is a different pain. It is quite a dull pain.
My gran suffered from ulcers and I know that my aunt did as well.
I am a 20 year old female. I am on Euthyrox for an under-active thyroid and Lexamil which is an anti-depressant.
For vitamins I take Omega 3,6 and 9.
My diet is standard however I am not a huge vegetable eater.I eat fruits, fiber, meat and not a lot of starch. When I do eat starches I have it before midday (12 noon).
I do not like going to doctors for fear of wasting money if it is nothing serious

Ulcer certainly sounds like a good place to start, and you really should be seen by a doctor.
Erosion of the esophagus, possibly, because it hurts right where the esophagus opens into the stomach.
Bacterial infection, because of the diarrhea - some caused by amoebae or giardia, from travel to new countries, contaminated food or water, public swimming pools, and communal hot tubs.
Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
COUNTLESS others.
