Do you have any examples, perhaps that your teacher showed you, or in your book? What do you think is the first step?

Solve for one variable. Solving for x or y is a starting point.

Solving Algebraic Equations 6x-7y=-13 and 7x+5y=-2
A system of equations.
6X - 7Y = - 13
7X + 5Y = - 2
Elimination would work best here. So you would bring the set to opposite but equal integers in one variable or the other to eliminate one of the variables and solve for the other.
