Clay type bottom, not sure what you are trying to describe. Ceramic tile is very brittle and tends to shatter when you try to remove it. Not sure what you mean when you say demolition hammer but you will need a broad masons chisel and hammer, start chipping.

You may use a power chissel powered by air - you can rent it. It is not as hard as using a chissel and hammer.

The chipping method does work.. But if you have wood subfloor over the decking and you are going to install a new subfloor rip out the tile, thinset and the subfloor together. Leaving the oringial decking and install your new subfloor on it. This works well if the subfloor for the tile WASN'T glued and you where going to install a new subfloor anyway.. Other wise get some gloves and saftety glasses and have at it. Be careful tile when broken is as sharp as broken glass..

Chipping works like a charm... just got done taking out 200 feet!
