I have an older mechanical Airguide wind speed indicator. It is from the mid 80's and utilizes the wire feed from the anemometer on the roof. Can it be converted to use the newer remote technology? I remember that the cable length cannot be changed on this unit.

I would doubt it. Older units made micro voltage that was sent by wire to a receiver, like a generator, newer units use a radio frequency generator.
