My daughter has had a Mirena in place for almost 2 years. She missed her last months period ( she has always been regular). She then started having sharp pains and cramping.. No bleeding. She had a pregnancy test and it was positive. This was confirmed with an ultrasound that showed mirena still in place with an interuterine pregnancy of 9 weeks. It does show a bleed behind placenta. My question is what are the chances of this being a viable pregnancy? She has 2 very young children and just left her abusive husband. I am concerned with all the stress and the bleed already that it will cause her harm to continue the pregnancy. Also confused if she should keep IUD in place or remove it?

The IUD needs to be removed as quickly as possible. Pregnancy with an in place Mirena carries some serious risks such as, infection, miscarriage, premature delivery, and even death.
