My wife and I purchased a home where the original owner added a room. For some reason the room is testing as being reversed as far as wiring. It is an old house built around 1954. Is there an easy fix that is safe. Outlets work now, but not good with modern equipment.

Look at the outlets. With reverse polarity(actually no polarity with AC) you will most likely find a hot feeder on the silver screw. Black to brass, white to silver. Should cure the issue. Check all outlets.
