What is the best way to wire 3 recessed lights to a one way switch, when in this order: power, light 1, 2, 3, then switch (dimmer)? I have 12/2 power to first light, then 12/3 in between the lights, and 12/2 from light 3 to switch.
Secondly, can I do this AND grab the power at the switch to feed an outdoor porch light?
Thanks!

Only if you run 12-3 cable to switch so that you have a neutral at the switch.

Thanks! I haven't tried it yet but I can see what I did wrong. I probably will switch to a 12/3 to the switch. Thanks again!

What a convoluted weird way to wire that.
What would the issue be with running the power to the switch first and just wire it typically?
IMO that was more trouble than it is worth.

I had a junction box in the attic right beside that recessed light and I figured I would save a little bit of wire. Looking back, I would probably take power to my switch first. More of a headache than it was worth for 20' of saved wire. Only problem now is I have drywall up.
