Hello,
I am an employee for a township in mi. In 2012, We gave up 13 days per year for furlough to help the township cut cost. I felt this was fair. In 2013, we were told that they would evaluate the budget to see if we could receive some of our days back. We ended up taking 10 furlough days. I was stunned when I read a local news articial that I was giving up furlough days to subsidize a water rate increase of 9% to this community. Meaning, instead of the increase going to the to the community, I'm paying their increase through my furlough. My question is, since I'm subsidizing this "rich" communities water rate increase, can I write those furlough days off on my taxes. My rates increased where I live and no one took furlough days to pay for me. So I'm getting screwed both ways. Don't be cruel to my question. I really don't know.
