I can't quite remember it all, but it's been driving me crazy and I'd really appreciate help.

I remember watching it when I was really young. It was on a VHS with some other cartoons. From what I can remember, there was a group of 2-3 kids (I know one boy was a teen or older) that somehow ended up in some kind of field (pumpkin patch?) and they stumbled across a something that lead them to a town. I know the kids were from whatever year this was made and the people in the town were from somewhere in the past.

While wandering the town they meet a girl around the same age as the eldest boy. There was something about something pretty common to the kids been illegal in the town and the eldest boy gets arrested? (Reading? Writing?) The others gets notes to him by throwing paper air planes through the bared windows of his cell... And break him out somehow. The kids all escape and the girl from the town comes with them. And the last thing I remember is seeing the kids silhouettes running away from the field.

If anyone can help... I would really appreciate it.
