I have a homework project where we have to make a news cast and I don't have good software. Any ideas?

It doesn't have to be free.

Do you mean simply filming yourself then editing the footage?

Well, yes, but also with the borders and things to make it look like a real news cast, such as CBS and such.

Youcam is pre-installed on many laptops; it has a host of effects/scenes built-in: YouCam 5 | CyberLink (http://www.cyberlink.com/products/youcam/)

Are you using Windows or an Apple computer?

Thanks, but I'm looking more for a video editing software as opposed to a webcam video software.

It depends on which windows you have as some came with video editing software. Check yours first. After that I use a program called "video pad / video editor" for quick work and for real picky things you can use adobe photoshop cs6. (very expensive)
