View Full Version : How to re-install moen faucet after replacing o-rings

I had a leaking "manor" model moen faucet, so I replaced the cartridge and the o-rings on the base of the faucet and the collar diverter. Now, I am having a hard time getting the parts to go back on to put the faucet back together. The collar diverter refuses to go back down on the base correctly, and in turn the spout won't go back down correctly so that the rest of the parts can be returned to their proper places. Is there a trick to this? I am about to pull out my hair. It was easy enough to replace the cartridge and the washers, but why on Earth won't it go back on the same way it came off? Please help.

Reinstall the cartridge with the stem in the open position. If you try to install with the stem closed position you have to over ride the air trapped in the valve to get it in far enough. With stem in the open position, the air can come out as you push the cartridge in.

Hi Cynthia

Good suggestion by Hkstroud...

Also, if I understand the issue at hand here, I'd suggest purchasing some silicone GREASE so you can lubricate the Orings and the body of the valve... should go together a little easier after that!
