We're putting a dishwasher in our office, and the only way to get hot water to it is straight from the hot water heater. I've done my fair share of home plumbing, but I don't want to take a chance on messing something up in the office. Here is a picture of the water heater setup --

Can just put in a T, or is this more complicated?

No sink nearby? If there is a sink it will be faster/easier to just cut a tee and a new shutoff in for the DW.

If there is no sink nearby then yes, just cut a tee AND a shutoff into the hot water pipe at the water heater... just be sure to connect into the hot water pipe AFTER the mixing valve... ;)

Mark asked important question. Usually, dishwasher drain is hooked up to a sink drain ( point of connection is under the sink ).

If you have sink close by than just install double angle stop to feed both the sink and DW.
