I have a 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I drove to work this morning and on the way there the transmission overheating light came on and when I parked it won't shift and the light is still on. It's now been several hours. What could this be?

. Clear the code, using a code reader or scan tool. The transmission will not shift, while the light is on.
. Check the transmission fluid level--add ATF+4, if necessary. This may help you get the SUV home.
. Drop and clean the pan and magnet, replace both filters, install a new gasket, and refill with Valvoline Full Synthetic ATF+4. When I did this job on my neighbor's 2008 Grand Cherokee a month ago, it took 9 quarts of transmission fluid. I also drilled a 1/2-inch hole in the pan and installed a Dorman drain plug. The full synthetic ATF will help the transmission run 25 to 50 degrees cooler and extend its life.
