This is my first post on here and I'm not really sure how it works but I would really appreciate some advice.

Exactly one month ago (sept 20th) my boyfriend and I had sex like we normally do no protection and he pulled out. I have been on the pill for several months now and this method works for us. I was expecting my period on the 29th of sept. however I didn't get it until the 4th of oct. and it was only about 3 days and more brownish than normal. So of course because I don't take my pills at the correct times ever I worried and took what I thought was a pregnancy test and saw a faint second line only to find out I was taking an ovulation test so then I took a hpt and it was negative. In all this I stopped taking my because because I thought I was pregnant.
Now I have not taken my because at all this month and my boyfriend and I had unprotected sex on the 13th of October, then on Saturday night (the 19th of oct) and again Sunday morning (the 20th of oct). All which he pulled out. My question is could I be pregnant from any of these occasions. I understand you can get pregnant from precum and am wondering could I be at greater risk because we had sex at night and then again that morning after and he didn't go to the bathroom or anything. I also have read I can't get pregnant this close to my period. I took an ovulation test today which came back positive with a dark pink line and then took a pregnancy test which came back negative. I understand its too early to tell from those recent times we had sex but I'm just wondering if I get my period next week am I not pregnant or do I still have the chance of being pregnant and when should I test? All this time I have felt extremely tired, more and more headaches, and nauseous. I have read so much online and have gotten every story under the sun. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Many questions, I am going to split this up.

For future reference this DRASTICALLY lessens the effect of hormonal birth control pills. There could be enough of a lull or peak of the hormones that can allow ovulation and implantation to occur.

I congratulate you on using 1.25 birth control methods and realizing the possibility of becoming pregnant while withdrawing.

Yes.

It doesn't really matter when you have sex. The risk is the same.

I also have read I can't get pregnant this close to my period. I took an ovulation test today which came back positive with a dark pink line and then took a pregnancy test which came back negative.
Chances are that you won't get pregnant. This comes down to probability. It is really a bell curve that peaks on your day of ovulation. Now what to understand is that a bell curve never reaches 0%, it gets damn close, but never touches. Now near your period end and start you have a harder time but it is still possible.

I understand its too early to tell from those recent times we had sex but I'm just wondering if I get my period next week am I not pregnant or do I still have the chance of being pregnant and when should I test?
Two weeks after your missed period. Early morning urine.

Please start using condoms as well if you're having troubles remember to take your pill on time.

Which could also be stress or detox from the birth control or stomach flu or... There are many reasons that you could be feeling run down like you are.

When you come down to it, there is a large body of evidence that shows that you could very well be pregnant. You've dotted all your I's and crossed all your t's.

Thank you very much you have helped out so much! So if I do happen to get my period here next week do I even bother testing after.. Because I know conception and implantation can take up to 12-14 days total after sex (or so I've read) so is it possible to get my period before all of that finishes happening and then still be pregnant after I get my period.. Sorry that may be a dumb question.

Once you're pregnant your period stops. So, if you get a period, you're definitely not pregnant. Here's the but. But some women do bleed throughout pregnancy, mistaking that bleeding for a period. Bleeding during pregnancy can happen.

You did put yourself at a higher risk of pregnancy by not taking the pill at the same time every day. You also increased the risk by discontinuing the pill, and continuing to have sex without any other form of protection (the pull out method is not a form of birth control).

Wait and see what happens with this next period. Be prepared that this period may be off because you stopped taking the pill. If you miss your period, wait 2 weeks, then test using first morning urine, your very first pee of the day.

There are women on this site, and all over the world, that got pregnant using 3 forms of birth control, all used correctly. Some more than once. It does happen. There are no forms of birth control on the market that are 100% effective.

Good luck. Please let us know how it goes. :)

So even if I do bleed some when I'm supposed to get my period it may not be my period an I could still be pregnant..

Exactly. And there's no way to know for sure if it's your actual period, or just bleeding.

Usually bleeding during pregnancy is lighter, doesn't last as long, or is off from what a woman expects from her normal period. But it can be just as heavy and last as long as a regular period too.

So, if you do bleed when or around when you expect your period, and it's off, I'd wait 2 weeks and test just to be sure. Having said that, your period may be off because you just stopped taking the pill, which can throw off your period. So you have a lot of things going on, and there's really no way to tell you what will happen, since there are a lot of possible reasons for every scenario.

So just to be clear.. No matter what, bleeding or no, take another pregnancy test 2 weeks after and then I will know for sure?

That's another question altogether, in a way. If you test and it's negative, there's good chance you're not pregnant, but it's not 100% either.

Many women don't get a reliable result on a pregnancy test until well into their second trimester of pregnancy. So no, a negative test 2 weeks after isn't a sure thing.

I know, it sucks doesn't it? Welcome to possible pregnancy, there are no rules, it's all guess work. :(

So really it's just a dreaded wait... So I guess I'm wondering do you think there is hope still that I am.. Or is it a long shot? And if I do bleed and get a negative test two weeks after my chances are even smaller.. I know you guys really can't tell the future or anything but just an opinion. I don't want to get myself excited to have a baby and then not be pregnant...

I am not going to put odds on this. You did a lot of stuff that isn't recommended if you're not trying to get pregnant. You were trying to get pregnant and it might happen.

In my opinion it looks like you might be. There is also decent odds that you might not be. I don't want to get your hopes up and honestly it is better that you approach this like you're not pregnant and do the test. It is hard to think like that but it will serve you better in the long run.

Sorry I can't be more clear.

Like Craven I can't really give you odds one way or another. At this point I'd assume you aren't, but treat yourself like you are. In other words, stop drinking alcohol, smoking, and everything else that could harm a baby. You can also start taking prenatal vitamins. If you're not pregnant they won't harm you, if you are, they can make all the difference for a growing baby.

Good luck, and please do come back and let us know how it all turns out.
