I've had irregular period cycles (35-50days) since the start of my period (age 15). I visited the doctor (age 20) and she prescribed me iron and calcium supplements for 1 month which helped me get regular cycles after. I also carried out all hormonal tests which were normal. After taking the supplements, my period cycles got much better but after every 4 to 5 months, they got irregular again, so without consulting the doctor, I took the same supplements for 1 month which then helped me get regular again. This process has gone through 5 years now however in total I have taken the supplements 1 month course 6 times during this period. I am 24 years old currently & I got married in November 2012 and I still have irregular period cycles. I have also been trying for a baby since past 6 months but I have been unable to conceive. Currently my periods are 13 days late from the date they are suppose to happen. I have taken the pregnancy test many times this weak but it is negative. I am really worried whether I should take the supplements again or not. Pls help me and tell me what I should do. I want to conceive asap.

You shouldn't have stopped the supplements. Iron is important for blood and tissue replacement, i.e. You have a period and lose a lot of blood and tissue. Calicum is important for bone and energy. Folic acid is also something the our OB said we should ALWAYS be taking.

As for conceiving, it is a roll of the dice every month. You need to get the sperm in the right area to conceive, the egg to properly get started and divide, the embryo to implant in the proper place. There are a lot of variables. The best strategy is to have a lot of sex. Not just during your fertile periods but all the time. Have fun with the sex too, or it will be boring and out of place.

There are a few things to consider too, the egg might have been fertilized for what ever reason but sloughed. If the embryo thinks that it isn't viable then it won't implant. This is mostly done if it detects a huge genetic disorder in the embryo. It might be worth it if you can get a genetic screening done with you and your husband.

So moving forward the things to consider, most home pregnancy tests get more accurate as you approach and move over the 14 day mark. Sometimes though they won't detect the pregnancy, that is when you go to your doctor. It also could take, depending on what birthcontrol you were on before, almost a year or more to conceive.

If conception doesn't come quickly then you're going to need to start ramping things up with your doctor. See what you can do through that avenue.

Good Luck!

Thank you for your help. I have started taking the supplements since past 3 days and now I will keep them regular. I have also started taking folic acid. Right now my period is 17 days late and I am going to plan on visiting the doctor now .
As for sex is concerned, we had a lot during first 5 months after marriage, and after we have been having it every other day or after 2 days gap maximum. This is why I am really concerned because its been 1 year and no conception :(
Now I hope the doctor I visit helps me out
