I am pregnant. My doctor prescribed me an antibiotic for a bladder infection. I was allergic to it so she took me off and waited until the cultures came back. I am only at 50000 count where I know a diagnosis isn't done until 100000. I have slight lower right pain and side pain and cloudy urine. Any sense of urgency or pain while urinating has gone away. She prescribed me smz/tmp and said to take it if symptoms persist or I experience any. The research shows this is a potentially dangerous antibiotic in pregnancy, though I am allergic to all the class B ones for pregnancy that are offered for UTI. Is the slight discomfort worth the risk? Will a cranberry juice diet work? Are there any antibiotics that I could take that are safer?
