I'm talking you know , temporary. Because I'm very sick right now, and my asthma is really acting up, and I do not have my inhaler. I've tried drinking hot liquids such as tea and hot water, but that did not work.

No easy cure, and maybe no cure, but --
Go to a small bathroom, close the door, turn on the shower to hot, and sit on the closed toilet breathing in the steam for, say, 15-20 minutes.
Take up to 10,000 IUs of vitamin D per day. http://www.webmd.com/asthma/news/20100910/vitamin-d-may-improve-asthma-control

When can you get a new inhaler? How much distress are you in right now?
There is no cure for asthma, there is only treatment. I know you said this was short term, but you did post that you were looking for a cure, and there is none. You need to stay on the treatment your doctor prescribed.
While Wondergirl suggested warm moist heat by going into the bathroom, I find that just makes my asthma worse. It works for me to go outside, if it is cold, and breathe in the cool air.
Other than that, an ER is your only option.

Hmmm, it worked for my cousin and also for my son's croup. Are there different asthma experiences?
Well, croup isn't asthma.
For me, the cool air soothes the lung tissue. This is really individual, but heat can tend to swell the bronchial tissue. When a breathing treatment is given typically cool moist air is used rather than heated air.

My cousin has asthma. Thanks for the information.
Hot fluids work. In an emergency a hot cup of coffee is suggested because of the caffeine.
When I lived in Alaska I never had an asthma attack. Here in Tennessee where it is hot an humid, I have them almost weekly during the summer.

We do what works, I guess. When I had my tonsils out at age 17, they tried to feed me ice cream. "EVERYONE has ice cream after a tonsillectomy," they told me. I couldn't eat it. Only hot chocolate was soothing.

I should mention go to ER if it gets bad. Since you are sick as well I highly recommend going to the doctors/ER. Asthma can kill. You may need predisone/steroids/increase in medication while ill. Do you have an asthma protocol to follow when ill? Do you check your peak flows? Both of those are very important so you can see how bad it is and what to do.
For me when I am having a bad attack nothing will help but medication. If it is mild the hot coffee can help.
I don't know what country you live in but in Canada when you go to ER for asthma they will do the ventolin/steroid protocol. That involves you taking a set amount of medication waiting 20 min then doing again. If you let them know you have no medication at the moment but will be getting your medication in x amount of days they usually will give you the puffers to take home. I have had to do that before, bad planning on how much medication I had left versus payday. I have also gone to the doctor for my asthma and he has given me samples to tide me over until I can get my medication. Some drug companies have programs, as well, that will help if people can not afford their medication.
