I am a 34 year old Woman that have been struggling with yeast infections since my early 20s. I feel like I get them WAY too often. At least every couple of months, sometimes more, sometimes less. I have tried many different treatments. I usually start with an otc cream based treatment, such as the 1-3 day Monostat treatments, sometimes the 3 days seam to work, but they mostly just help temporarily. Many times, my doctor has prescribed me a 1 day dose of Diflucan after the cream failed to work. This usually(but not every single time) has seamed to work. But at best for a few weeks, then anywhere form then, to maybe 2 months it comes back and I have to repeat! I have been trying some natural preventative options, such as acidophilus (mostly azo yeast) I have taken that almost every day for months now. It seams like it helps, but they still eventually come back. Sometimes I feel like they never really go away, and just tame down for a few weeks. It seams like a lot of the time I have intercourse, there is at least a little bit of a creamy presence, even when I think I don't have a yeast infection. I have been tested for all STDs a few times(since reading all the web pages about yeast infections mention STDs, it has had me paranoid, (Negative for everything). This has been going on for years. I just don't know what to do. Is there more that can be done with diet? Any other suggestions?

Yogurt is a good suggestion. Plain yogurt every day. In fact, that's what my doctor prescribed when I was pregnant and had a yeast infection, since medication wasn't possible.

To this day I eat plain yogurt daily, and it's been years since I've had a yeast infection.

Give that a try.

Has your partner been treated when you treat yourself? They could have the yeast infection and give it back to you.
Have you seen a doctor and mentioned how often you get them as some conditions and medications can cause them?

I suspect your diet may be the culprit. Try drastically minimizing the amount of starchy carbs and sweets you eat. You probably have candida albicans and need to adopt a candida free diet. You must drink lots of water daily. Preferably half your body weight or more. Drink unsweetened cranberry just daily. Make sure you wash your vaginal area twice daily and change your under wear daily. Taking refrigerated acidophilus daily is excellent. If you are on or were on any antibiotics lately, increase the frequency of your acidophilus intake at your discretion. If you do nothing else I suggested the one thing you must do is DRINK LOTS OF WATER DAILY. Also get tested for diabetes. When one knowingly or knowingly has diabetes, the disease makes them more prone to yeast infections. Avoid all sodas, cookies, cakes, and junk food and I bet you will see a positive difference. Good Luck!

'You must drink lots of water daily. Preferably half your body weight or more.'

A 120 lb woman would have to drink 60+ lbs of water, or 7 gallons! WRONG. That is almost enough to kill you.

I agree with all the rest of the above from all posters, and especially the part about getting your sexual partner tested and treated, symptoms or not. Your doctor should have mentioned that!

While everyone has given you fabulous advice, I have to caution you against this.

You must drink lots of water daily. Preferably half your body weight or more. This is EXTREMELY dangerous advice and can lead to water intoxication. Water intoxication can lead to death.

With that said, to add to what everyone else, besides that member has said, your partner needs to be tested and treated as well. Particularly if he is uncircumcised. Also, it is important to wear cotton panties, no synthetics as synthetics don't allow for your vaginal area to breath and it traps in moisture, causing yeast to form. As well as that, you need to wear loose fitting clothing, nothing tight.

Hi this is Koko I advised you to drink half your body weight which was accurate and excellent advice for your problem. For example if you weigh 160lbs you should drink 80ounces of water daily because 80 is half of 160. This advice is not only for you but for every one. We all need to drink at least half our body weight daily. By doing this daily you would not experience water intoxication. That is simply not true and if you are doubting the validity of my advice, I encourage you to confirm with your doctor. GOOD LUCK

Please also be advised that water intoxication can occur when you are drinking abnormally excessive amounts of water within a short span of time but you would have to do this in excess. This would not apply to the minimum amount of water (half our body weight) that we all need to function properly. Water intoxication can be fatal because it throws off your electrolyte balance but please don't be taken up by this because it does not apply to you. Just know any thing in excess
