Hi I am 19 years of age and I live in Toronto, Canada. I have recently been charged for theft under. I have been charged in the past for theft under, but I have received a diversion for that. This is my second time getting charged. I am accused of going taking off a price tag off a shirt and bringing it to the change room and switching the same shirt with my currently being worn one, the only benefit is I receive a newer one. The thing is though I have a receipt for the old one I had and there is a 90 day exchange policy. The time between the purchase and the charge was within a month.

So did you steal it or not?

Did you take the tickets off the shirt and take that one?

I am confused as to your innocence or guilt.

Furthermore, I am confused as to your question.

If you needed to exchange the shirt you go to customer service. You don't do it yourself.

I am so amused, this person has no feeling of guilt for what they did, and it appears fairly obvious they are actually upset it appears because someone caught them, all I heard was excuses why it was OK to steal.

It is very obvious that they did not learn their lesson the first time, and I do hope they use this exuse with the judge, he will find it as amusing I am I for sure and help give the proper sentence to explain why this was wrong them to.

No no.. Absolutely not. It is wrong and I am terrified about this. Only god knows how sorry I am for this and only he truly knows that I will never do it again, but what I'm asking is for your help on what I can do. What should I do?

I'm not sure you are really being honest with yourself.
I am not buying your innocence in the tag swapping scheme.
Dare I ask how many times you stole and were not caught?

No one is perfect... but some people screw up their lives more than others with foolish choices. Whatever problem or background is behind your "need" to steal, it's time to grow up, take responibilty for yourself, and get it sorted out. The sooner you do that, the sooner you'll be on a path with a future... and a whole lot happier with yourself.

All you can do is get a lawyer, and suffer the consequences of your actions. In the meantime, keep your nose clean, maybe get some counselling to figure out what pain you are trying to ease by doing this, maybe get involved in some kind of volunteer work to keep you busy and stay out of tempting situations!

Well, God and the Judge may have believed you the first time... but it doesn't pass muster the second time. You are now what is known as a "repeat offender."
