(16f) I have suffered with a constant headache and this is week 10! Pain is differing, and all over my head particularly at the front and in my temples.
I have seen/seeing a neurologist, pain spec, GP, physiatrist, physcologist and my dermatologist and have not got a diagnosis nor any relief. Note I saw my dermatologist because it was suspected the accutane med I was taking was causing inter cranial hypertension, which wasn't the case)
MRI, lumbar puncture, blood work and neurological exams normal. Pressure for lumbar puncture = 11. Pain med provide very little, usually no relief including prodeine forte and tramadol.
Tests showed no physical abnormalities or anything 'nasty' like a brain tumour/blocked blood vessel.
The pain can often 10/10 and incapacitating leading me to a hospital admission and a lot of missed school, and I haven't being able to exercise or play sport for 2+ months :(
Sometimes when the pain is very severe I struggle to cope, I can do nothing but lay on the floor with 3-4 ice packs for hours and I am scared I might do something terrible to end the pain. The hospital sent me home because they couldn't find a physical cause and said they can't treat me if it's not organic/medical..

Any ideas? Suggestions? Possible diagnoses?

When I first started getting migraines, I had a constant, 24/7, three month long headache. It was the worst thing I have ever experienced. It left me feeling lethargic and disoriented, and the pain made it difficult to manage anything. It could be that you are experiencing migraines, or it could be something else, I'm not a doctor. All I know is that this is precisely what I went through with my first about of migraines.

If you think it could be migraines or something similar, the best thing to do is try to relax. I know that's not easy, especially when you're in pain, but any kind of stress is just going to make your pain worse. Plus, your headache could be caused by tension, stress, and worrying, so attempting to alleviate some of your emotional pains could help you with your headache. Try having some warm tea, or whatever drink is most soothing to you (unless it's alcohol- that's not going to help), and engage in activities that bring down your stress levels- whatever that may be for you. Stay away from migraine-inducing foods (you can Google that), and maybe have an allergy test done- sometimes allergies can cause headaches. Try taking some over-the-counter migraine medications. They don't always take away ALL of the pain, but if they help even a little bit, that would be good. Most importantly, whenever you're having the worst pain, get yourself a very dark room to nap in. Don't stress yourself out about the pain, just try to calm down, and nap.

If ANY of this helps you, try talking to your doctor (or maybe get a new doctor, since the ones you have now haven't helped you much) about prescription migraine medication and other migraine-reducing tips.

In any case, I hope you find a way to cope with the pain and figure out what is causing it. Not knowing what is going on with your body is one of the worst feelings, I know. Good luck, and take care.

Thanks for the detailed reply Sinquisitive, although my neurolgist did not think Im experiencing migraines your similar experience of a 24/7 pain for a 3 months is very interesting and I will keep stay open to the possibility of it being a migraine.

I definitely agree that stress and anxiety are contributing factors to the headpain so thanks for the helpful advice.

Note when I was in hospital the pain did not respond to a migraine med so I doubt I others would be helpful.

May I ask how old you where when your first started experiencing migraines?
Thanks again

I was 17 when I had that first migraine. Up until that point, I don't think I'd ever even had a headache before, oddly enough.

There was one other thing I thought of, after I posted my last reply, although I'm sure your doctors must have asked you about this by now, but- have you had any sort of injuries in the past few months? Maybe around the neck or shoulder area? Like a pulled muscle, or getting hit with something, or falling down even? Something like that could cause headaches, too.

I wish I could be of more help. The only reason I said anything at all is because I'd never heard anyone speak of an experience similar to mine before. I know all too well how awful that sort of pain is, especially having to deal with it for so long, so I definitely hope that you manage to figure out what's causing it so you can treat it properly.
