We have a 3 piece bathroom in the basement that has not been used since we moved into our house almost 3 years ago. The basement has always smelled fine until recently. Two things have happened. We got our basment redone and someone had unplugged our lift pump. (Thank goodness that the bathroom was not used) And 2nd we uninstalled the toilet and inserted a plug. The smell didn't start till we uninstalled the toilet. Which change has caused the liftpump to smell? We ran water in the shower to make the lift pump run, but the smell has returned. Help!

Hi Fishgirl

Did you run water into the sink? If not, that sink has a PTRAP that needs to have water in it at all times... just like in the shower drain.

Run water into the sink and see if the smell goes away. If the smell goes away, keep the PTRAPS wetted on a biweekly basis from now on.

If that fails to resolve the issue I suspect that the plug used to plug the toilet is not tight!
