Hi I'm 22 years old.I had my first pap smear yesterday and it really hurts a lot I almost cried in pain. I don't know why it's painful I thought it's not since I had sex already. I tried to research about pap smear but according to what I read it does not hurt. Is there something wrong with me? By the way it's when the doctor inserted the speculum that really really hurt me. When she did the swabbing it does not hurt that much, I just felt a little discomfort.

This is not a comfortable exam. It is possible that the doctor used the wrong sized speculum. That is not uncommon for a first exam.

There is nothing to worry about. It may depend upon your sensitivity or the skill the doctor possess do it. May be in your case it was only rigidness of speculum which made you feel uncomfortable.

Did it pinch? Or just a vague pain?
Some doctors just aren't careful opening the speculum and the soft sides of the vagina get caught, and that REALLY hurts. That's in addition to the size of the speculum.
Next time you are seen, ask for a hand exam to see if any area hurts without a speculum. Or ask your partner to feel around. You can buy plastic speculums online and try together.

Hi I had my first pap smear few days ago. After the exam I told my examiner that sometimes I bleed after having sex then she said that it's because I have a cervical lesion that causes me to bleed down there. Should I be worried? Could this be cancer? She gave me prescription for doxycycline 100mg twice a day for 7 days. That's another thing I'm worried about because few days before I had pap, I had unprotected sex (no withdrawal, condoms, pill, etc.) so basically I can be pregnant but I wouldn't know if I am since it's still too early. Do you think its safe for me to take the medication? Im scared I might be pregnant and hurt my baby.what should I do?
Yes, it's safe to take the medication. The doctor would not have prescribed it to you if it weren't.
You need to refrain from sex until you have the repeat PAP Smear to make sure everything has resolved.
