So I am wanting to change my name. I have the documents needed to file for the court (I am in Arizona). I don't think I really want to change my birth certificate though (there's a box to check if you want to). HOWEVER, I was born in Colombia, South America and adopted. I did have a different name and my name was changed to my current legal name when I became a citizen through my parents here. Even if I do not wish to change the original birth certificate, my check list says they will need it and even need to see naturalization or certificate of citizenship papers. I do not have these, how do I go about getting them? Or can I just go with what I have and they can help me there and I should be OK? (as I have proofs of IDs, the Passport from Colombia,

This seems so confusing and I have been wanting to do it for a while and now I finally have a start, just want to make sure I do it correctly.

Thanks

You would contact ICE to get copies of your naturalization papers. Though if you have a valid US passport that may be enough.

It is up to the court clerk and/or the judge if those are enough, a strict court may demand the papers exactly as listed. Others may accept. Only the court there can tell you.
