I'm about to turn 16. I failed the 7th grade twice then when it was third time going back I never went back because I was embarrassed I'm supposed to be in the 9th grade. I need to go back to school but I'm to embarrassed to step foot in school knowing I will be 16 in two months and am still in the 7th grade. Please help. I'm depressed I have no friends and I feel dumb, I need an education.

No... you can't go to the 9th without finishing the 7th or the 8th (or testing out of them where its permitted). You would certainly fail the ninth as well because you have not mastered that coursework yet. And you would not achieve enough credits to graduate...

Are you located in the U.S. If so, contact your local school district and explain your situation. There are schools for those who've dropped out. You'd make up the credits and graduate. In CA, we call them continuation schools.

Where I live they have cyber school. When my daughters dropped out I got them doing that. That didn't work out for them because somebody had vandalized the computers before they were passed out. Since then the school has a great success rate. My daughters taught themselves and then went for their GED.

I'm curious. Where I live you cannot drop out of school until you're 16. You have to be in school, be it home schooled, or at an actual school. How did you drop out before you turned 16? Is that legal where you live? Here your parents would have been charged.

In and out of foster care is why I failed so many times. One min my dad would have me and I would be in another state then my mom would then my grandparents then foster care. So I missed a lot of school. When my dad passed away I just never went back..

Are you in a stable place now with no future changes as to where you live?

Google the name of your county and state and "school superintendent" (without quotes) to get the phone number. Ask about alternative education for students who had to drop out but want to return..

Your foster parents may well have been breaking the law, since you should have been required to go to school

But no, of course you can not go to 9th grade, if you could not pass 7th, you have to learn that material to move forward.

You guardian who is over you, will need to go to the school and try and make arrangements. Also at 16 you may be allowed into the GED program.

First let me say that I feel bad for you, given all the adults and moving around and lack of a cohesive home.
You teachers and parents above, what do you think about home schooling, if there are no special schools nearby? Most are in local groups online networking these days, and one of them might be happy to include him in their 7th grade level. That way he wouldn't have to deal with embarrassment for now.

I was a very good student, but years out of high school I looked at the big fat GED book, and I didn't know tons of the answers! It's so easy to forget book learning.
