I enrolled my son in a nearby school when school started. I used the addressed where I used to live, because I do not have a current address. The school discovered that I wasn't living at that address and charged me with fraud. I was arrested and haven't been to court yet. Should I just plead guilty so I can get this over with and reunite with my son? Why or why not?

It seems that you haven't given us enough information.

How do they figure gving an old address is fraud? You were not trying to obtain money or anything of value from them by telling them something that wasn't exactly true.

No, by all means do not plead guilty to a crime simply to "get it over with". You may be entitled to a court-appointed attorney of your financial circumstances make it impossible to hire one. Check into that possibility, and consult with an attorney before entering a plea.

Where is your son, in state custody?

First why are you not with your son ? Did they take son away when charged with crime ?

Are did they take child away because you are homeless ?

Who took the child. Merely pleading guilty does not mean you will get your son back if CPS took them. In fact it means you may not, if you agree to crime.

Have you talked to an attorney, have you been offered a plea deal to plead guilty ?

If that was you last known address, and you are actually homeless, I do not see a court convicting you, unless there is a lot more to this, that you are not telling us

Definitely do not take a guilty plea! Find out if this is a Felony or not. I Felony will be on your record and if a background is run, it is not a good thing. Get a lawyer, whatever it costs will be will worth it! Do this ASAP, try to get the charges dismissed before they actually indict you to the DA!
