I just got a new puppy today, she is mini schnauzer and 10 weeks old. She doesn't act like a puppy though! I try playing with her and she seems to kind of get into it but then she just suddenly stops out of no where an ignores me. I think her before owner may have taught her not to be a puppy, you know? Like I think they broke her spirit. She is just abnormally calm and timid and... Lifeless. How can I get her spirit back? What can I do to help her realize that she can be a puppy and not get punished? Can she even be a puppy again? I hope for replies. Thank you.

You are a stranger to her and this was only the first day. Give her time to get used to you and your family. She's away from her own home now and her mom and her brothers and sisters. How lively would you be if that happened to you?

Be gentle and patient. Lie on the floor and get down to her level and talk to her, sing to her, read out loud to her. Let her get used to your voice and the noises in your house. You want to make her feel comfortable and part of your family now.
