Hi! I hope someone can help me with this. Our Lennox unit is 13 years old and the circuit breaker for the compressor outside started going off. Every time I reset the breaker, it would blow again. I went out to the compressor, pulled the safety plug and then the circuit breaker would not blow. As soon as I re-installed the plug, the circuit breaker would blow.

I called a repairman, and he said a mouse got inside and shorted the electronic module out and I need to replace the entire outside unit including the compressor. Does this sound right? I could see a mouse shorting the electronic module out, but how would that take the compressor? He said this was common with Lennox and even bugs get inside and cause this problem.

Does this sound reasonable? Any ideas? Help!

Thanks,

Roger

Did the repairman come to your house and look at the unit?

If not you need a pro to check your system over to see exactly what is broken so a discission can be made as to repair or replacement.

Usually a mouse or other things can cause a short but it needs to be checked out. Sometimes just the burnt wiring can be replaced.

At 13 years of age it is time to decide how much money to repair an A/C that has about 5 more years of life. I don't see how a rodent took out the compressor, but I didn't diagnose the problem either. It may be time to obtain 3 quotes from reputable companies and ask their opinions, then compare what they have told you for a better educated decision.
