My girlfriend is on probation for a dwi, and we have been thinking of taking a vacation. If we fly to another state without her getting a travel permit is there any way her probation officer can find out?

Yes.

How would they be able to find that information?

How would they be able to find that information?

Very easily actually.

Why risk it? Why not ask for permission to go on vacation? It's not worth going to jail for.

Obviously you do not know how that access that information or you would have said.

Because I am going to surprise her with a trip to Hawaii for her birthday. She is not a felon or hardened criminal. She is in college and made a mistake.

Ok, you have all the answers so why ask?

They can find out. What if they call her? What if someone maybe reports her for leaving? What if the PO decides to do a random check? There's a number of ways the PO can find out but hey, you know the answers and just wanted to come here to see if anyone would agree with you.

Oh I know many ways that they could find out she left without permission. If you thought for a second you'd figure it out too. It's not brain surgery.

Why did you ask if you thought you knew the answer? Surprise her. If you're wrong she'll get an even bigger surprise when you get back, they'll revoke her probation and she can have a second vacation in jail.

Up to you. Me, I'd clear it with her PO before going. But I wouldn't want to risk someone I claim to care about.
