I have a water faucet in my garage that I want to use to hook up an icemaker. How can I tell if the faucet head is sweated on to the pipe it is connected to or screwed on? I want to replace the faucet head with a shut off connection and run a plastic water line to the icemaker.

What kind of faucet head are we talking about?

If you don't know, don't touch it. If it breaks you will be opening a wall.

Look at the part of the faucet that connects to the supply pipe. If there are threads then it can be unscrewed and a tee installed between the pipe and the faucet that a icemaker can be supplied off from. If there's no threads then it's a solder joint and the water will have to be evacuated from the pipe before the faucet can be removed. Let us know what you find. Regards, Tom
