Hi all,
I am an International F1 student from India at a university in Texas. I am interning in Arizona from Summer through Fall 2013.

I would be back to Texas in Spring 2014. I really don't know what should be done in this regard to submit my taxes in 2014. What forms do I need to submit and any links that I need to go through.

Also, I came to know that Since I am on F1, do I have a limit on my returns , I mean in previous year I got my tax returned. But I don't think it happen s now. Can anyone share their knowledge on the return policy for F1 students?

Thanks for your time.

The money earned on the internship IS subject to U.S. income taxes for 2013, PLUS you will be required to pay taxes to Arizona as a state non-resident, because that was where the money was earned.

If the internship was paid under Form W-2, the wages are listed on Line #8 of the Form 1040NR or Line #3 of the Form 1040NR-EZ.

If the internship was paid under Form 1099-MISC, then it is considered BUSINESS income; the income is reported on Schedule C (which is submitted with Form 1040NR) and reported on Line #13.

In either case, NEITHER FICA (on the Form W-2) NOR self-employment tax (on Schedule SE) should be withheld or reported on the Form W-2 (for wages) or the business income is EXEMPT from the self-employment tax. This being the case, MAKE SURE the employer knows you are NOT to pay FICA taxes.

Yeah, Basically the pay I get in my internship is a net pay after deducting Federal and State Taxes. So, There is no need for me to pay specially for the Taxes. I need to know what should be done when I file my returns for the Year 2013. What forms do I need to fill in my side and what documents can I take with me?
The Answer seems too technical for me to understand. Kindly explain

Thanks,
Pavan

Pavan,

If they are withholding taxes, then you are being paid under Form W-2.

So you will need to file Form 1040NR or 1040NR-EZ, plus Form 8843 (which must be submitted annually by all F-1 and J-1 visa holders).
