Does this "hammering" occur when the shower is being used or just when you turn the shower valve off?

Does the hammering occur with other fixtures or just the shower?

What does the plumber that installed the valve have to say on this?

Back to you...

Thanks Mark
Hammering occurs when we turned the control toward mixing hot & cold in the middle.. It happens in both main shower and rain shower. Not sure which valve is hammering. Hammering does not happen any where else.. Only this new shower. The plumber or the bathroom company has not come out... They will be here possibly tmrw.

More questions:

What is brand name and what is the model number of the shower valve and the shower heads?

Who installed the "new cartridge"... you or the plumber?

Answer the questions and then the only other thing I can suggest right now is to check the shower valve for integral stops (large slotted nuts under shower valve trim plate, if present) or for shutoffs further down the water lines... could be some washer chatter from an old shut off valve (or integral stop washer, if present).

Thanks again.

We purchased the whole system with 2 shower heads from signaturehardware.com

Here is the system. Which came with a valve which came with the tub spout but we did not use it and stub the valve for the spout. This is used on main wall with shower head, hand held shower.. so valve was four sided. Bottom one for tub spout was stubbed out.

Rain shower had has this valve on side wall

We did not replace the cartridge.. plumber did yesterday.

I am just trying to understand this and get some understanding from the expert.

If the cartridge has been replaced at the shower valve then the only other thing I can think of would be to check the shut off valves in line (as mentioned above) or to check the diverter valve assembly. Here, the diverter valve washer/cartridge assembly can also make noises under certain circumstances.

In the end, it shouldn't be too hard to resolve if the plumber starts at the valve (and diverter) and works his/her way back toward the water supply.

To use the diverter for hand held shower main shower has to be on... We can use main shower or both including hand held.. That is what the diverter does.

Thank you very much
