HI, my father in law was not doing the right thing late in the 80's. He was arrested for drug distribution in 1988 and served a sentence until 1992. Friday, ICE officers went to his house in the Bronx and arrested him. The officers didn't have a warrant, and didn't even tell him why he was being arrested, they came into his apartment and he was taken to One Federal Plaza, NY. His green card was taken away, he was let go and was told to see the Judge late in October.
These are the questions:
Can he be deported for a crime he committed and paid for?
Is the deportation law retroactive?
- I mean, he went to jail already and paid his debt to society.
Please, someone shed some light here.
