Hey everyone, I just came across this site and thought I would share my hair coloring experience and see if anyone can help me with going from ashy blonde to auburn with box dye color at home. Firstly, I'm a natural level 6 (dirty blonde) and I've been coloring/bleaching/highlighting my hair since I was 14 (I'm 20 now). As you can imagine my hair is very fine and damaged from all these process'. I've always been a bleach blonde but struggled with lifting my darker roots and it's finally time for a change. I recently went to my cousin's house for a root touch up (I see her every 4 weeks for blonde foils) cause she refuses to put bleach directly on my roots and said my hair will fall out; which I understand. But, this time she did as I asked and said she would tone out any brassiness. Our 1st problem was that she didn't put the right toner on my hair OR leave it in long enough. 2nd she made my hair a "big bird" yellow as I like to call it and it was a total bleaching disaster. At this point I wanted to cry.. My hair was in deep need of a protein treatment and I had to cut inches off into a bob hairstyle days later. About a week after that I went to a new salon and consulted with a lady that had 25 years experience. I was there for over 3 1/2 hours getting my color corrected with a pearl toner, fixing my previous hair cut, getting a protein treatment and I got Light Auburn low lights. My goal was to get the yellowish hair turned into more of a wheat blonde/ash blonde and set the look with a bit of a red hue. It turned out nice except that the highlights and low lights mostly all blended into one color due to my fine hair. So, now that I have a couple low lights of Auburn and I'm noticing that surprisingly it isn't washing out at all has made me realize I absolutely love this color, it compliments my porcelain skin and green eyes. Since I just dyed it and the salon was $80.00 I can't afford to go back in another week or two to get it professionally done. I've been searching online for days for reviews on which box dye for Medium Auburn would look best on me. I'm going to choose a Medium instead of Light because I know it will come out more orange because of the bleach. I've finally decided on trying Revlon's ColorSilk in Medium Auburn (It has amazing reviews). I haven't purchased it yet but I'm going out today to find out if the color is sold at Walmart. Finally, my main question! Is there anyone that has tried this at home before? When I was searching Youtube and Google I only saw girls with darker toned hair that used this product but never someone with ashy
Colored hair. I'm so scared that I'll end up with "hot roots" or patchy spots. Thanks so much if you're reading this and If anyone has helpful tips or any information to help me before I use this product you would be a life saver! Xx
