Dear madam

I am adopting a girl baby which is 45 days old. I was told that some people are telling that you can breast feed her. For me how is it possible. I asked them they said that when ever the baby sucks the breast automatically milk will secrete. I don't know whether is it true or not. When ever I am taking the baby it starts sucking the breast. Some people are telling that those who have new born you can take to them to feed the breast milk . Is it right or wrong? Can you suggest me any remedy for this.

Thanking you

It's possible IF your body is producing the proper amount of prolactin, estrogen and progesterone. In the yester years, women who breast fed for mothers were called nurse maids.

With a great amount of dedication and preparation, this is possible. Not probable, but possible. You may need to undergo months of hormonal therapy for this to happen. Your body will have to undergo a false pregnancy with these hormones, and this can last 6 months or more before even trying to put the baby to the breast.

Also, at 45 days old, if the infant has been bottle feeding, breast feeding may not happen as there is a different sucking mechanism involving the tongue and the palate. The newborn may well have the sucking mechanism of the bottle down pat and, therefore, not adapt well to the breast.
