I noticed a couple of nights ago after it had rained that there was a wet spot on the carpet in the hallway just outside the kitchen. I used towels to pulled up the water. By the next day the wet area had gotten a bit larger. I used a steam vac to pull the water up. Today it is larger and when you step in the middle of the area and press down with your foot you see the water come up. This is in New Mexico where we are have been in a draught and we are now in Monsoon season that we haven't seen in 5 years,

Any suggestions on what this could be and what I should do?

Thanks.

Is the house on a slab?

Yes. No basement and the development if built in such a way that we are on the cul de sac at the bottom of the development. So when heavy rains come all the water from up top in the development comes rushing down the cul de sac.

I bet there's a crack in the slab there and the high water table from all the rain the water is whicking up from under the slab.

Wouldn't be surprised if that's what it is. Any idea what I can do to fix the problem?

Not until the water levels go down... you could force a hydraulic cement into a larger crack while its damp... but thicker sealers you might use for smaller cracks would need dry concrete to bond to... you'd have to pull the carpet up to see what you are dealing with... and trust me you don't want to do that when they are wet or damp... they WILL shrink in a hurry... (I had that happen once many years ago).

Then what options you have are best determined when you see the size and extent of the problem. And honestly it can be a very small problem... I don't think it's a very large crack or it would be a lot worse..
