Yes, you can contract it as well. Chances are higher during a breakout, but still possible without.

I really can't give you a percentage. Some are more sensitive to get it, others not so much. Your chances, though, are higher if he had a breakout.

There are a lot of diseases that are lumped under one name. Take hepatitis A/B/C. Since they're lettered like that you would assume they're related. They're not. So having HSV2 doesn't mean you're less susceptible to getting HSV1. It is a probability game at this point. Does he have an open sore? Higher chance. Are you playing tonsil hockey? And winning? Higher chance. No break out in a long time, lower chance.
